Red Cross Hurricane efforts include locals

Sharon Township resident Tom Quinn is once again on storm duty with the American Red Cross in areas hard hit by Hurricane Michael.

Quinn, 70, left Wednesday.

He is one of six disaster workers from Northeast Ohio volunteering to work in community evacuation centers across Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

Tuesday night, approximately 4,000 people stayed in nearly 70 evacuation centers where more than 500 trained disaster workers are volunteering.

The Red Cross has said it has pre-positioned enough shelter supplies, including cots and blankets, to help upwards of 15,000.

Officials are calling Hurricane Michael the worst storm that’s threatened the Florida Panhandle in a century.
